Additionally, Value Education programs in colleges based on Vivekananda’s ideas and Youth Conventions for faculty and students further promote his ideals and help instill moral and ethical values.

National Youth Day

In the year 1984, the Government of India proclaimed that Swami Vivekananda’s birthday should be observed as “NATIONAL YOUTH DAY” from the year 1985 onwards. In the proclamation, The Government Of India mentioned that the allusion, the attitude of Swamiji and the principles that he stayed alive and worked could be an enormous source of appreciation and inspiration for the Indian Youth. Swamiji’s profound messages to the youth have been captured in various published books and unpublished manuscripts.

12th January is celebrated as “NATIONAL YOUTH DAY” because on this day in 1863, The Great Philosopher, the Great Inspiration of the Youth, The Embodiment of Indian Culture and Intelligence, Swami Vivekananda, the Great Spiritual Leader, was born. He stands as a role model for generations in various respects.

Every year the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission organizes several events with the objective to inculcate “Man-Making, Character-building and Nation-building Teachings” of Swami Vivekananda among the youth so that their minds can be molded, their ideas can be elevated and their tremendous energy can be properly channeled in the right direction enabling them to grow as noble Citizens of our Motherland. A true educationalist at heart, Swamiji’s teachings have crossed international boundaries and stood the test of time.

Value Education

The Value Education Program for children helps them develop a level of confidence in themselves and build their character strength. Through a systematic study of role models like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Swami Vivekananda, children learn how to develop their own personalities in the light of an ideal. The Value Education Program is conducted using story-based learning toolkits developed by specialists.

We also propose to start a similar program on the life and teachings of the Holy Mother for the women of the village. It has been observed that it is the mothers who need to be strengthened in values, as the strength of the mother will impact the overall strength of the family.
